Time for another Dram!
An easy-to-drink Single Malt Welsh Whisky with a pleasant aroma.
So far I've tried a variety of Scottish Whiskies (as one can expect), Irish whiskies and a few Japanese ones. The Aber Falls is my first Welsh whisky review and I have no idea what to expect from this one.
A bit about
Located in Abergwyngregyn village, in the northern part of Wales, Aber Falls Distillery is a new one, having opened in 2017. They take pride in using 100% Welsh ingredients and being the first distillery to open in North Wales in the last hundred years.
The whisky takes its name after the Aber Falls waterfall which is quite close to the distillery.
Aber Falls has 40% ABV and a beautiful amber-gold colour.
Time to try it
Aber Falls Single Malt
Nose: Slightly sweet and fruity, with a bit of toffee and vanilla - overall a very pleasant aroma.
Taste: Light, fruity, a bit citrusy, goes down pretty smooth
Finish: Long with a hint of spice and dried fruit (think of sultanas and plums)
Pros and cons
It lacks complexity and depth, but it is to be expected considering it's a young distillery and this is a no-age-statement whisky.
It is, at least in my opinion, super easy to drink whether neat, on ice, with the mixer of your choice or in cocktails.
as a side note, I like the design and feel of the bottle
In conclusion
Priced at around £25 on most UK websites, I think it's a nice summery whisky to try.
I especially enjoyed it in a highball (tall glass full of ice, whisky, and soda) on some of the (rare) sunny and warm British summer days.
As always, please drink responsibly.
