Baked Kale Chips - Easy Recipe

bowl of Baked Kale Chips

Kale chips are becoming a popular option when it comes to healthy and delicious snacks.

I am fully aware that this plant is a great source of vitamins, antioxidants and minerals, but, I honestly admit that I am not a fan of kale in smoothies or salads.

These kale chips are the one way in which I can incorporate this superfood into my diet and, if you're sharing my 'appreciation' for kale, I hope this recipe will help you as well.

spices for kale chips

How to:

  • Preheat the oven to 180C/gas4

  • Line one or two trays with baking parchment.

  • Wash and pat dry the kale, removing any large stem pieces

  • Put the dried kale in a bowl then add the olive oil and spices of your choice

  • Mix everything well, making sure that all the kale is fully coated in the oil and spices.

  • Spread the kale leaves evenly, on a single layer, on the trays lined with baking parchment.

  • Bake for 8-10 minutes (until the edges of the kale chips are crispy and darker in colour)

  • Leave the kale chips to cool down on the tray.

  • Once they've fully cooled down, enjoy!

  • For a 200g bag of shredded kale, I normally use two tablespoons of olive oil, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper and a pinch of whatever spice I happen to closer in the cupboard - most of the times cumin powder and paprika.

  • Make sure the kale leaves are fully dry before adding the olive oil and spices, otherwise they will become soggy. Pat dry with kitchen/paper towel if needed.

  • Feel free to experiment with the types of herbs and spices used, but please be careful with the amounts used - start with 1/4 tsp for 100g of kale and work your way from there, according to your personal preference.

  • Kept in a glass or plastic container with the lid slightly ajar, they last for 3-4 days at room temperature.
