A fragrant, floral and fruity Blended Malt Scotch Whisky
A bit about
Compass Box is a company founded in 2000. They call themselves 'Whiskymakers', having as a core aim to make things better by questioning, experimenting and challenging the way whisky is made.
Orchard House is a blend of whiskies from several Scottish distilleries, including Linkwood, Clynelish, Caol Ila and Glen Moray.
It is part of the core collection along with Nectarosity, The Peat Monster and Crimson Casks.
Orchard House is non-chill-filtered, has 46% ABV and a beautiful natural colour.
Time to try it!
Nose: As expected, lightly floral, fresh, fruity with orchard fruit, apricots, apple, pear
Palate: A slightly oily mouthfeel, very fruity (raspberries and pineapple) and with just the right amount of sweetness.
Finish: Long, citrussy, and fresh with a bit of spicy ginger towards the end
Pros and Cons
It's great for sipping.
You can slightly feel the ABV but without it bothering too much or taking away from the notes.
Adding an ice cube (or a few drops of cold water) mellows everything down and removes the bit of sharpness and gingeryness from the finish.
So far Orchard House has been great in any of the cocktails I've made and it is particularly delicious in a highball. It is a beautiful dram to enjoy on a warm summer day.
I liked the design of the label before, but after trying this whisky, I think it's a pretty good description of what to expect.

In conclusion
When it comes to blends, I admit I can be a bit picky (I have been spoilt with a wide variety of delicious single malts), but this one more than pleasantly surprised me.
It's delicious neat, and although perfect for a summer dram, it is highly enjoyable no matter the season.
