How to:

  1. Melt the butter in a cast iron/nonstick pan

  2. Add the onions and leave them to soften

  3. Add the garlic and cook for a couple of minutes

  4. Add the fine green beans and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally

  5. Add 100-150 ml water * and cook for another 7-10 minutes, until the water has evaporated.

  6. *If you like your green beans to be super crunchy, only add 100ml water and remove the pan from the stove after 7 minutes

  7. *If you prefer the beans to be a bit more cooked through, add 150 ml water and cook them until all the water has fully evaporated from the pan

  • A good source of fibre and vitamins, and a highly delicious addition to any lunch or dinner.

  • Any leftovers last in the fridge for 1-2 days and can be reheated either in a pan or microwave.

  • Feel free to use olive oil instead of butter ( I prefer the buttery taste for this particular recipe)

  • You can blanche the green beans (or even boil them for 3-4 minutes) before you toss them in the pan with the onion, garlic, butter and spices but I prefer adding the water to the pan as it coats the beans better

  • You can keep the beans whole or chop them into bite-size pieces

  • The beans I usually find at my local shop have the ends already trimmed, if that's not the case for you, please make sure to trim them
