A blended whisky made by the UK's highest altitude Gin & Whisky Distillery.
A bit about
The Cat and Fiddle, a former Inn dating back to 1813, located in Macclesfield Forrest in Cheshire, is home to the Forrest Distillery.
This family-run business has been around since 2014.
Matured in English Oak casks, Blend No. 26 has a beautiful natural amber gold colour, 47% ABV and it is non-chill filtered.
Forrest Whisky uses English porcelain bottles that are handmade and glazed with gold.
Time to try it
Forrest Whisky Blend Number 26
Nose: Forrest fruit, sultanas
Taste: Sweet on the palate, but not overpowering, oak, treacle tart, dried fruit
Finish: Long, oaky, quite strong (you can feel the 47% ABV, but it is enjoyable)
Pros and Cons
It goes very well after a meal, instead of dessert, or paired with one, as it is quite on the sweet side.
I have only tried it neat, but I'm pretty certain it would work wonders in an old-fashioned cocktail.
I was very curious about the use of new English oak casks and this particular whisky has not disappointed me - the oakiness complements the amount of sweetness in the finish quite well.
In Conclusion
Priced at around £60 on most UK websites, it's a very good dram to enjoy neat.
Blend 26 is worth a try if you prefer whiskies great for sipping, with a medium body and a lot of flavour.
As always, please drink responsibly.
