An Oloroso Sherry Finish blended English Whisky, from the UK's Highest Altitude Gin and Whisky Distillery.
A bit about
Blend Number 29 has a golden natural colour, is non-chill-filtered and has 47% ABV.
This was one of 400 bottles.
This whisky is produced using a mix of Cheshire oats and barley, wild yeast and natural spring water. Maturation first happens in oak barrels, the result is blended with other whiskies after which the blend is matured in 50-year-old Oloroso Sherry Casks.
The handmade porcelain bottles Forest Whisky is bottled in are handmade in Stoke on Trent and glazed with gold.
Time to try it
Forest Whisky, Blend Number 29
Nose: A rich smell, full of sultanas, dried plums, and a bit of toffee
Taste: A bit fiery to begin with but calms down soon, caramel and freshly baked biscuits with a hint of almond and bitter orange
Finish: Slightly bitter, almondy, medium finish, a bit oaky with a hint of vanilla
Pros and Cons:
Although not as rich, the finish reminds me somehow of the 12-year-old Dalmore.
I enjoy the Blend 29 way more over ice than neat as it somewhat mellows the sharpness and brings out more of the vanilla, orange and raisins.
In Conclusion
No matter how you decide to enjoy this whisky, I think it's an interesting one to try.
If you are new to the whisky world, I probably wouldn't necessarily recommend this one as an entry-level one especially if you plan on drinking it neat.
If you prefer your whisky to be very much on the sweet side, then I would suggest you try Forest Whisky's Blend Number 26.
As always, please drink responsibly.
