Kefir and Cheese Biscuits

Updated: Oct 10, 2023

Kefir and Cheese Biscuits

This is a quick and easy recipe for moreish Kefir and Cheese Biscuits.

I love Kefir and all its health benefits and I try to incorporate it more into my diet.

I love homemade biscuits and these ones are so simple to make, that this will probably become one of your go-to recipes for super cheesy biscuits.

Feel free to use your preferred Cheddar/Gouda/Edam/Cascaval/Provolone/Fontina or anything similar. The Kefir, unfortunately, cannot be substituted for this particular recipe.

ingredients for Kefir and Cheese Biscuits

You will need:

  • 150 ml Kefir

  • 100g grated cheese (mild cheddar, gouda)

  • 200 g flour

  • 50g butter

  • 1/2 tsp sugar

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp pepper

How to:

  1. Preheat the oven at 180C

  2. Mix everything except for the cheese and kefir, either by hand or using a blender.

  3. Add the cheese and kefir and mix well until you form a dough

  4. Roll the dough, then fold it in 4

  5. Repeat rolling and folding 5-6 times

  6. The dough needs to be between 1/2 cm and 1 cm thick. Cut the dough using a knife, round cookie cutter or just a small glass.

  7. Put the squares/circles of dough on a baking tray lined with baking parchment, making sure to leave a bit of space in between each biscuit (2-3 cm)

  8. Bake for 18-20 minutes at 180C

  9. Remove from the oven and leave to cool down

  10. Enjoy!

You can enjoy them as they are, cut them in half and spread some butter on them, or use them as an addition to a meal, either way, they are fantastically delicious. Just thinking about the aroma of these freshly baked cheesy biscuits makes me hungry.

You can keep them in an air-tight container and they will last for 4-5 days at least.

I have tried a gluten-free version of this recipe and it was pretty similar in result, unfortunately, a dairy-free option is not available.
