Time for another drink!
A beautifully light and fragrant sake
A bit about
Namazake (meaning raw or fresh sake), is an unpasteurised sake made by Gekkeikan Brewery in Kyoto.
After fermentation, the sake is filtered and bottled, as it is, unpasteurised.
Gekkeikan's Namazake is bottled at 14-15% ABV.
A while back, during a One Month in Japan trip, I had the pleasure of visiting the Gekkeikan Okura Sake Museum in the Fushimi district of Kyoto. From their gift shop, I bought a few bottles which grabbed my attention, one of which was the Namazake.
To see what a visit there looks like, please click here, or search in the travel section. If you plan a trip to Japan/Kyoto, make sure to visit this brewery, it is very much worth it.
Time to try it!
Gekkeikan Namazake has a 14-15% ABV and is clear/colorless.
Best served chilled, it is still delicious at room temperature, but better if it is slightly colder.
It is honestly one of the most refreshing sakes I've had in a while.
It has a delicate smell and a fresh, crisp but light taste reminding me of apples and rice flour.
It paired wonderfully with most foods, but especially with an aged cheese platter and fish (and seafood) carpaccio.
Overall, the Gekkeikan Namazake was an absolute pleasure to drink.
I was lucky enough to buy this straight from the source, but you can find this 280ml bottle on some UK websites between £8 and £11 (although it does seem to be out of stock most days).
As always, please drink responsibly.

Take care.
