Time to try it
Penderyn Celt
Nose: Peat and orange peel, with a small amount of vanilla
Taste: Sweeter than what the smell suggests, with a decent amount of peat without it being too overpowering, with lingering citrus zest, especially towards the end
Finish: Medium, Citrusy (zesty) with a very pleasant peat aftertaste
Pros and Cons
Peat and sweetness are very well balanced, while the citrusy notes add to the interesting flavour profile of this no-age-statement single malt.
I'm not usually a fan of peated whiskies, especially the highly peated ones, but every once in a while I find one which positively surprises me - Penderyn Celt was luckily one of those.
I found it to be very easy to drink, very palatable and, perhaps surprisingly, more enjoyable neat rather than with any addition of water or ice.
In Conclusion
Priced at around £35 on most UK websites, Penderyn Celt is a very interesting dram to try. If you're usually a fan of non-peated whiskies but would like to give the peated ones a try, then this one might be what you're looking for.
As always, please drink responsibly.
